One of the park's most popular program has expanded this summer. Here is the park's recent press release on Shadows of the Past, held in the Longmire area of the park:
Families and individuals of all ages are invited to journey into the past and hear from John Muir, P.B. Van Trump and Fay Fuller among others at Mount Rainier's annual Shadows of the Past program. The program has expanded to four nights throughout the summer - July 10 and July 24, August 7 and August 21.
Park Rangers and volunteers will lead visitors along the Trail of the Shadows where characters influential in the creation of Mount Rainier as a National Park will come to life and share their story of the mountain. Ranger-led lantern tours depart every 20 minutes between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. and last approximately 90 minutes. The program begins at the National Park Inn at Longmire inside the park and will be held rain or shine. Each tour is limited to 40 participants. Free tokens will be issued for each tour starting at 8:00 PM in front of the Inn. Bring a warm jacket, insect repellant, a flashlight, and wear sturdy shoes. The program is free with the park admission fee.
