Mt. Rainier, WA. - The furlough is over and Mt. Rainier
National Park is open and just in time to enjoy the peak of its copper canvased
fall color.

Roadways around the Park that are open include: Highways
410, 123, and 12; the Nisqually Road to Paradise and Paradise Valley Road;
Stevens Canyon Road; and the White River Road to the White River Campground.
Sunrise and Mowich roads are closed for the season.
The Longmire gift shop is open today from 10 a.m. - 5
p.m. and the National Park Inn and restaurant will open at 3 p.m. on Friday,
October 18. The Longmire Information
Center is also open. The Jackson Visitor
Center at Paradise will be open this weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Everything will be operating on normal schedules by
Saturday, October 19.
The Jackson Visitor Center at Paradise is now open only
on weekends and holidays and the Carbon River Ranger Station is open. Seasonal facility closures now in effect
include: the Paradise Picnic Area; Sunrise; Cougar Rock, Ohanapecosh, and White
River campgrounds and picnic areas; and the Paradise Inn.
"The mountain
is absolutely breathtaking in fall and the best part of an autumn visit is
there aren't any crowds," said Mary Kay Nelson, executive director of
Visit Rainier. "Crisp morning hikes
along an auburn canopied lowland trail, and blazing mountainside sunsets
provide perfect backdrops for family photos.
Mushrooming for Chanterelles has been great so far this year too, so if
you're familiar with finding them, you are in for a real treat."
